Deputy Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, Udhayanidhi Stalin, has started a new initiative named “Kalaignar Sports Kit Scheme”. And recently announced the expansion of the Kalaignar Sports Kit Scheme in Tamil Nadu to Urban local bodies and inaugurated facilities on the campus of Tamilnadu Physical Education at the Sports University in the Chengalpattu district. He also launched distribution of 19767 sports kits to Municipal Corporation municipalities and town panchayats, across Tamilnadu, at an event had an event at Vellore Institution of Technology in Chennai.

The government has launched this scheme in 2024 in order to cover all the village panchayat. This scheme has not been extended to cover 25 municipal corporations, 145 municipalities and 479 town panchayats in the state.
